well not even showed up last night. he lost control of the debate and mitt romney ran all over him like a truck crushing a bug. we don't need a moderator for the next debate. we didn't have one last night. we'll talk about it, who won who lost, is it going to change anything. first, let's take a little time out to get the latest, today's current news update as always from lisa ferguson out in los angeles. hi lisa, good morning. >> hey bill, welcome back. it is a good day to be back. good morning everyone. with the first debate under their belts the candidates are back on the campaign trail today. president obama starts out where he left off in denver then he heads to madison wisconsin. joe biden is in iowa and mitt romney is in virginia. but who wants to talk about all of that when what you really want to talk about is the debates. a lot of claims thrown around last night. we're going to do some fact checking for you this morning. but first let's start out with a bit of a recap. of the debate was moderated by mitt romney. oh wait, we mean jim lehrer who i think it is safe to say did wor

obama's best night, but mitt romney looked good right? but there has been very little focus other than you, think progress, on what he said and the stuff that mitt romney was saying. some of it was unbelievable. he says he is going cut taxes by $4.8 trillion, but no taxes that will contribute to the deficit? >> yeah. that one stuck out, especially since you can go right back to the primary campaign and when he was debating newt gingrich and rick santorum and the rest of the crew, he said hey wait a second, i'm going to reduce taxes by 20% across the board including the top 1%. that was his line. and the other thing that really stuck out is this issue of preexisting conditions when he looks into the camera and says hey, my plan does cover preexisting conditions. well that is just not true. it doesn't cover preexisting conditions for people who haven't had insurance before, which is a big part of the problem, literally millions and millions of people who would not be covered under his plan. >> bill: the one that really disappointed me to say the least, three times he came back to preside

last night and during the day. i heard you talking about what romney can do and how -- and the bar and where it is. and, you know, i think that there's agreement around republicans out here in colorado that the bar is much higher for romney, that we have to have one of those moments that we're going to be talking about, you know in four years the next time i come on the show, talking about the debate moments from that time. i don't know that's a really high bar to set. it's a really high expectation to say you need to go into the debate and come out with one of those moments that we remember for decades or years. that's where romney has to be, because i think his campaign has not done the job so far. >> you know, evan in the back of my mind i've got this conspiracy theory going on, that the republicans are setting this debate up as such a big moment for mitt romney to perform that when he doesn't perform up to par, because let's just face it, he hasn't performed very well for the last year and a half or last five years or seven years this guy's been running for president for a long
